DESCRIPTION:  \nMore than 50 homeowners from the Havana community attended a charity event on Saturday\, where they learned how to grow their own vegetables and flowers in their gardens. \nThe event was organized by NAFSAN\, a non-profit organization that promotes urban gardening and environmental education. The participants received free seeds\, pots\, tools and compost\, and guidance from experienced gardeners on how to plant\, water\, prune and harvest their crops. \n \nThe event also raised funds for NAFSAN’s projects\, such as installing community gardens in schools\, parks and public spaces. The organizers said they were happy with the turnout and the feedback from the attendees. \n“We wanted to show people that gardening is not only fun and rewarding but also beneficial for their health\, well-being and the planet\,” said Ben Schernick\, the secretariate of NAFSAN. “We hope this event will inspire more people to start or improve their own gardens\, and to share their produce and knowledge with their neighbours.” \nOne of the participants\, John Smith\, said he enjoyed the event and learned a lot from the experts. He said he plans to grow tomatoes\, lettuce and herbs in his backyard. \n“I’ve always wanted to have a garden\, but I didn’t know where to start or what to do\,” he said. “This event gave me the confidence and the resources to try it out. I think it’s a great way to spend time outdoors\, save money and eat healthier.” \nNAFSAN plans to host more events like this in the future and workshops on topics such as composting\, pest control and organic farming.
